Day 80

Ducked out of the office early yesterday, and I met up with Jonathan to fly. We headed to a field that is across from the "dumpster" that Jonathan had flown once before (it's the one that I walked, that had the ridge covered in briar....), and we kicked around in there for a bit. The time before, Jonathan said they had been poppin off every where by the road, but we just didn't manage to get many moving. We got one flush after about 30 min or so which she chased pretty good, but it dissappeared into the honey suckle somewhere. Went through another denser section, and we found an open spot that was covered in low briars, and she crashed the brush after a rabbit in there. I heard where it scampered off to, and got a reflush on it, but she barely missed it as it entered the denser part of the woods. Decided to call it a day on that field, and we jumped across the road to the "Dumpster." We started in the area we normlly do, but didn't kick up any rabbits...so we headed on the other side of the fence, and started heading through the woods. Jonathan started yelling ho, and Shaung comes in HOT, and slams the rabbit on the ground. I only see the beginning of the flight, but start running when I hear the squeel. Jonathan makes it to her before I do, and she had lost it?!?!?!?! Not really sure how that happened, but she did. Got her back up, and Jonathan made a few steps, and reflushed the bunny. It got away unfortunately, so we continued on toward the open section in the back. I flushed a rabbit right on the edge, but she was out of position, and just ended up coming and landing above me. That rabbit pulled a houdini, and was never seen again, and we started cutting back toward the car. He called her down, and as we where getting back to the car, she bated HARD off of his fist. We commented how that looked like she was going at something, and as we turned the corner to go back through the fence, a rabbit kicks up. She launchs off the fist, but doesn't have enough momentume to catch up, so she flips up into a tree above where the rabbit went, and started stairing straight down. I go wide, to flush from behind, and Jonathan comes in from the other side. I only make a few steps back toward the bird, when the rabbit bolts. All i can see is the bird, but the rabbit must have hopped the creek, and then shot across the two track. She crashs the brush on the other side of the road, but comes up empty footed. It was pretty much dark by now, so that's all the hawkin that we got in, but it was good times, and Jonathan was sure that she would be fired up for todays hunt. Just talked to him on the phone, and he was exactly right. Apparently, she came down and slammed a rabbit so hard today, that she split it open, and the guts fell out! NICE!!!! Dee was at 1040 grams when I went home for lunch. Drove around for a little bit looking for pigeons and crows, but only found a couple slips, and they both busted before we got close enough to slip her (they where in gravel parking lots and busted as soon as we would pull in....even though we where on the opposite ends of the lot...oh well). I got here early this morning (like always), so I will be heading to the squirrel spot around 3 or so. There was a hag RS sitting in my back yard yelling at Dee over lunch...I'm taking that as a good sign that we will have a successful trapping adventure this weekend.
